2008 - PGOLID Candidate Statements

Gary Hart

Pelican Beach

I was born and raised in Fargo and spent my summers at my parent's lake home on Lake Lida. I have been a seasonal resident of the lakes all my life until March of 2003 at which time we moved to our current address full-time. We have been residents of Pelican Lake part and full-time for the past twenty years. I graduated from Fargo Central and NDSU and Moorhead State College. During college, I was in the Army National Guard for six years in a combat construction unit. My career was in the Grocery Business. I managed Hornbacher's Foods in North Fargo for forty-six years, retiring in March of 2005. I am past president of the Edgewood Lions, I have spent time on the advisory boards for Supermarket Management at Moorhead Tech, and I am currently on the Scambler Township planning and zoning committee. I have been married for forty-three years and have two grown children. I feel that it is the responsibility of all residents to be involved in their community and do their part and that is why I am volunteering for this position.

Broadwater Beach

My wife Ann and I live on Broadwater Beach. My decision to run for a second term on the PGOLID Board has evolved from being on the lake since the mid-60s as a non-resident and the last nine years as a year-round resident. I have been active in the Pelican Lake Yacht Club in numerous capacities including Commodore twice and involved in the many improvements there. I was recently President of Broadwater Beach Association and I have been active on the PLPOA Board as for the last seven years (Communications director for the last 3 years).

I feel that a moderate approach to maintaining the quality of our lake as it continues to evolve is the proper course and will continue that approach as in the past. Changes are inevitable, but proper planning can help ensure we leave this lake as good as, if not better than we found it. I would appreciate your vote August 16 th.

Haugen‘s Point

Since I first visited Pelican Lake a dozen years ago, I have come to appreciate the combination of benefits our lake offers families: boating, swimming, fishing and natural beauty. All of these intrinsic attributes and the value of the properties we own surrounding the lake, rely on the management of our lake's water quality and the vegetation in and around it. I would look forward to serving on the PGOLID board, to continue and further the work already in progress, and to prudently manage the property tax resources the PGOLID relies upon.
