9.6 Aquatic Vegetation Aquatic plants, also called hydrophytic plants or hydrophytes, are plants that have adapted to living in or on aquatic environments. Because living on or under the water surface requires numerous special adaptations, aquatic plants can only grow in water or permanently saturated soil. Aquatic plants act as a habitat to fish. Two aquatic plant surveys were conducted for each of the 4 Pelican group of lakes. The surveys took place in 2003 by Blue Water Science. A variety of native vegetation was found, along with one exotic species curlyleaf pondweed. In the summers of 2010-2011, PGOLID has hired an independent contractor to survey the aquatic vegatation again. This new data can be compared to the 2003 data to see if there have been any changes.PGOLID Plant Guide DNR Aquatic Plant Information Page |
