Highway 20 Culvert Total Suspended Solids (TSS)

TSS is a measure of suspended particles in water. These particles can be soil from erosion and/or algae. High TSS corresponds with low water transparency and clarity.

TSS loading is usually highest in the spring due to spring thaw, spring rains and runoff as shown in the loading graph below. High TSS also corresponds with heavy rain events. 2011 was a typical year for TSS concentration and loading.
